Mobile Broadband Installation

Detailed information on the proccess involved in setting up a Mobile Broadband Plan.
07/12/2009

Once you have chosen the best mobile broadband plan for your needs and signed up to a plan you will need a wireless modem. Many Australian wireless broadband providers will offer a free modem on many of their wireless broadband plans. Once you have your modem, all you need to do is plug it in t your computer and you are ready to go.

Wireless broadband uses the Australian mobile phone network to transfer broadband data. This means you will not need an active home phone service to use a mobile broadband internet plan. This can save you money off monthly phone line rentals when you no longer require a home phone service. You won’t need to install any line filter on your home phone service as your mobile broadband modem won’t interfere with other appliances.

When you sign up to a mobile broadband plan you can choose either a USB wireless modem for a laptop of a wireless internet network card for a desktop computer. This will be sent via the post and once it arrives all you will need to do is plug it in, run the installation CD provider and you will be ready to browse the internet.

If you are bringing a mobile broadband modem form another provider you will need to configure it with the username and password given to you by your wireless broadband provider. You may need to contact your wireless broadband provider to get the correct set up details.

With a Vodafone Mobile Broadband plan you will receive a Mobile Broadband modem either free, or for an additional $5 per month on a 24 month contract. Once you receive your modem all you need to do is simply plug it in to your computer, wait for the automatic software installation and you’re connected.

With the Vodafone Mobile Broadband Data Card for a desktop computer you will need to install the software from the CD provided before you plug in the modem.

Vodafone also offers laptop computers with built in wireless broadband which means you are ready to as soon as you receive your new computer. For $59.95 per month Vodafone customers receive a brand new Mini Dell Netbook with built in Mobile broadband combined with 5GB of included data each month. There is no software to install, and all you will need to do is insert your SIM in the laptop or Netbook and you’re online in an instant.

Before signing up to a mobile broadband plan, it is important to ask your provider about the mobile broadband coverage in your area. The strength of the mobile coverage will affect the actual speeds you receive.
