Three mobile broadband speeds

Three mobile broadband
(HSDPA or High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) are available in areas within 3’s broadband zone. Typical download speeds on a Three mobile broadband plan range from 600kbps to 1500kbps depending on  your location and the coverage in that area. Upload speeds reach up to 384kbps. The actual speed achieved on a Three mobile broadband plan will vary depending on a number of factors such as device capabilities, the location and equipment and network usage at the time.


Three mobile broadband excess usage charges

Additional usage over the monthly included data content is charged at 10c per MB on any 3 mobile broadband plan and this cost is an important consideration when deciding the appropriate monthly usage limit for your broadband subscription. Once outside the Broadband Zone, you can still access the internet via roaming. Speeds while roaming in Australia may be significantly slower than in the 3 Broadband Zone and usage is charged differently. Outside of the Three mobile broadband network the service will ‘roam’ to another carrier that has mobile reception in that area. When ‘roaming’ Three Mobile Broadband customers are charged at 50c per MB.

As a rough guide, a 1Gb 3 mobile broadband plan allows the average user to be able to surf the internet for 100 hours, view 25 two minute videos, download 50 music tracks, chat on Skype for 5 hours, Instant message for 50 hours and send 1000 emails every month. That is a lot of internet usage each month for only $15 a month.

Each Three mobile broadband plan has a different amount of monthly usage to suit the needs on the individual. Depending on the amount of time you intend to use the internet you may need more than 1Gb of monthly downloads. Three mobile broadband services are available on a 24 month contract but once your contract period is over you can continue on a month-by-month basis or renew you contract to upgrade your mobile broadband modem.
