Free Wi-Fi tram for Melbourne commuters

Commuters in Melbourne's inner south-eastern suburbs can get free Wi-Fi on a tram for the next 11 weeks courtesy of banking group ANZ.

The free Wi-Fi tram will travel along the 5, 6, 8, 16 and 72 routes, taking a different route every day, until October 24.

Melbourne commuters hoping for free Wi-Fi wireless internet on their way to work should look out for an ANZ branded Yarra tram. This is the first time that Wi-Fi has been offered on a tram.

"Free Wi-Fi gives people access to people so they can do their internet banking, access the internet or other online services while they are commuting to work or stopping for a coffee," ANZ said.

For those who take the train, ANZ is also offering free Wi-Fi at Melbourne's Southern Cross station until the second week of September.

The offer has been more popular than last year, the bank said, with approximately 20,000 people accessing the Wi-Fi since the campaign started on July 8.

ANZ is also sponsoring free Wi-Fi in one hundred cafes in the central business districts of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. For a full list, head to ANZ's website.
