In 2009, 3 had over two million mobile customers in Australia. 3's Mobile Broadband Zones are available in most parts of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and the Gold Coast. 3 has introduced 3G Roaming Zones outside of its Broadband Zones, so customers with a capable device can now access 3G services in areas covering 96% of the Australian population. It is important to check the cost of roaming outside 3’s mobile broadband areas. 3 merged with Vodafone Australia on 9 June 2009, 3 is now owned 50% by Hutchison Whampoa Group, and 50% by Vodafone Group plc.
