About Vodafone

Vodafone is one of three network providers in Australia. Although network coverage is not wide-ranging as Optus or Telstra, Vodafone 3G services are available to 94% of Australians. Vodafone offers mobile broadband and iPad plans, with both prepaid and post-paid options available. Vodafone plans are priced competitively and several different contract lengths are offered.

Vodafone Australia, originally a subsidiary of Vodafone Group, was the third provider to be awarded a network license in 1992. In 2009, Vodafone merged with 3 and is now owned by Vodafone Hutchison Australia, which is itself owned jointly by Hutchison Australia and Vodafone Group. As of June 2011, Vodafone Australia had 7.2 million customers.

Vodafone offers a range of plans from just $19 a month for 2GB, which is enough for occasional users who only want to check their email and brose a few websites. A great value plan for heavy users is 14GB a month for $49 on a 12-month contract, which includes Vodafone's popular WiFi modem, also known as pocket WiFi.

Availability

Vodafone offers 3G coverage across Australia in cities and some of the larger regional towns. Many other areas are covered by 2G services. 3G services are available to 94% of the population.
