Hi Bek,
All the jargon and strange terminology when you're signing up for an internet plan can be confusing, but once you've got a handle on it it's quite simple, so don't worry! ADSL is a type of broadband, just like mobile wireless and cable. It's the most common form of broadband these days, and the one that most people get; it's inexpensive, stable, and can give you a large data plan.
When it comes to ADSL, you're going to see plans that are either ADSL1 or ADSL2+. In a metropolitan area like Clayfield, I think you'll be able to get ADSL2+ easily, which is good – it's faster and cheaper. ADSL2+ works through the same copper line that your home phone does, so even if you don't want a home phone, I'd recommend looking at bundle deals as they're cheaper than something like Naked Broadband (where you physically turn off the home phone). If you don't want a phone, simply don't plug one in! Then there's no way you can rack up any call charges.
If you're looking for a heavy data plan, the best thing to do is to get a plan that will give you unlimited data. This will stop you from worrying about how many GBs you've used each month. There are some great unlimited plans out there at the moment.
First and foremost, Club Telco offers the cheapest unlimited broadband plan in Australia at the moment. The Club Telco Unlimited ADSL2+ plan comes in at a mere $25/month. The catch is that you'll need a home phone; if you don't already have one installed, though, you can get that from Club Telco – it's usually around $30, bringing your monthly charge to $55. Call Club Telco for more information on 1300 198 274.
TPG also offers an unlimited plan, the Unlimited Internet and Home Phone Bundle, for $59.99/month. This includes line rental, and if you don't make any calls that's all you'll be charged per month. For more information on TPG call us on 1300 106 571.
Dodo offers unlimited broadband as well. Dodo's Unlimited Internet and Home Phone Bundle is $62.80/month. Call Dodo for more information on 1300 136 793.
If you have any further questions or need some more clarification, don't hesitate to give us a call on 1300 106 571.
Mikaella.
