Hi there, I am locked in with Telstra - I think for maybe not quite another year.

Am I able to move when in a contract or do I have to stay put until it expires? Thank you, Cassie.

Hi Cassie,

If you are in a contract with Telstra and either wish to sign up for a new one or terminate your current contract with them, you will have to pay a termination fee and pay out the remainder of your contract directly to them.

You are able to sign up to a new provider without contacting Telstra, however if you were then  the termination fee and contract cost would be automatically charged to you without any kind of notification required to you as a customer. The contract cost would be the amount of money that you would have paid Telstra over the length of your contract in total. Your termination fee would be determined by what kind of contract that you have signed up for, as they are individually calculated.

I recommend you checking your Telstra Bigpond contract, as it should say how much the termination fee shall be and how much your contract will cost you at minimum (ie, the amount that you will need to have paid in total to Telstra by the end of your contract or at termination.) If you can't find your contract, I would call Telstra on 137 663.

Thanks,

Jessica
