Hi Phil,
This is actually a common misconception that people run into when searching for a broadband plan. While some providers – somewhat misleadingly – offer so-called "pensioner plans", they are not restricted only to pensioners, nor do they generally offer prices that are very much different from your general bargain bundles.

There is a process in place for seniors to get discounts on their broadband providers, but this is conducted through Centrelink. It's usually a discount on your line rental – so for example, while most people pay around $30 per month for line rental, you may be able to organise a discount of up to $12 per month with Centrelink. This depends upon your own personal circumstances and situation, and nobody at Compare Broadband or indeed any of the sales teams working with various providers will be able to help you with this. You'll need to contact Centrelink directly.
You may find, however, that you can only get this Centrelink discount on certain plans from certain providers, and the other charges may be exorbitant enough that it's not worth going with such a provider. Here are a few of our favourite low cost bundle plans that should be able to get all of your broadband needs taken care of without costing a ton.
If you want to get your home phone and broadband through the same provider, TPG are one of the best low budget providers. Check out the TPG 100GB ADSL2+ and Home Phone Bundle for $49.99 per month. It includes 100GB of data along with your phone line, and is available on a six month and eighteen month contract. Call us for more information about TPG on 1300 106 571.
If you'd rather get a provider that will include some free calls in your home phone bundle, try Eftel (1300 106 571) and Optus (1300 137 897).
If you already have your home phone through a provider that you're happy with, we recommend Club Telco. Club Telco are currently Australia's cheapest unlimited standalone ADSL2+ plan provider. Club Telco are offering their Unlimited ADSL2+ Plan for a mere $25 per month. They also have very low set-up fees and a 0-month contract available. Call Club Telco on 1300 138 155.
Maybe, though, you don't feel like you need a home phone at all! If you're looking for Naked DSL (broadband without the home phone), I'd recommend MyNetFone. You could try the Naked DSL 200GB Plan for $49.95 per month. MyNetFone are particularly attractive because of their great special offers – free modem and free set-up, and they're currently offering the first two months free as well. If you decide you want a VoIP line (phone over the internet), they are easy and cheap to bundle in as well. Call MyNetFone on 1300 106 571.
I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please feel free to call us on 1300 106 571.
Mikaella.
