We have Telstra ADSL and phone plus 5 mobiles all offplan currently.
Need good speed ADSL for a family of 5, 5 mobile plans with free intra family calls, cheap international and interstate calls - what package do you provide?
TPG have a couple of products that would make this a lot cheaper for you. In regards to Internet and landline phone calls, you might be interested to check out the Super Chat Bundle. For $69.99, you receive Unlimited data (handy if you have teenagers!), Unlimited STD and local calls to landlines, and 100 free international minutes. The plan is available on a 24 month contract only, with a free Wi-Fi modem included and total setup costs of $110.
As for mobiles, you have a few options. TPG can offer mobile plans from $17.99 (reduced to $15 per month when you have TPG for broadband). This plan comes with $550 worth of data, free calls to other TPG mobiles and to TPG landlines, and 1.5GB of mobile data for smartphones.
We encourage most people to go for the TPG Unlimited bundle, simply because it's so straightforward and represents such good value. For mobile, it's hard to look past the excellent value offered by TPG's mobile cap plans - but in general, we find there are better options than cap plans.
The main issue with cap plans is in their definition - they're not 'cap' plans at all - rather, they might better be described as 'floor' plans. Because cap plans come with such an enormous amount of credit, people overlook how dangerous they can be. With TPG's mobile plans, which are amongst the best value in the market, you're paying a 35c flagfall per call, then 90c a minute thereafter. For 13/1300 numbers, you pay the eye-watering rate of $1.02 a minute. That $550 value is hard to go through, especially with inter-family calls being free; but once someone in the family has gone over that value, the real-money rates can lead to nasty 'bill shock'.
Another option we recommend is Amaysim's SIM-only Unlimited plan. For $39.90, you receive free calls to all Australian landlines, mobiles and 13/1300 numbers. SMS and MMS are free. Youy get 4GB of data. Amaysim's mobile App for iOS and Android makes everything nice and simple, and you can add extra credit for things not covered in the plan, like international calls and text.
Of course, putting 5 people on a plan like that makes your monthly mobile bill nearly $200, instead of $75 for TPG's plan. That's a big difference. I would recommend you consider which family members might be likely to exceed a cap plan and get the Amaysim plan for them.
Similarly, Dodo's Magic SIM offers the same as Amaysim's for the same price, but with 5GB of data and 100 free international calls. Amaysim's main advantage is their superior customer service.
All of these mobile plans use the Optus network, so make sure you have an idea whether this network is available and of a good quality in your area.
In all, the total for Internet + 5 mobile plans could be as low as $145 a month; but for real security, $270 a month.
