Hi, I am looking for a broadband plan having unlimited GB of data without home phone.

Whenever I contact some providers they always talk about home phone. I don't really need home phone as I have got two mobile phone having unlimited calls in Australia and good amount of money for international call as well. If you guys have any plan like this I will be happy to sign up. Thanks, Indra.

Hi Indra,

You've voiced a common frustration amongst Australians. The traditional pairing of a home phone and broadband connection has come under fire in recent years, since more and more people use their mobile for most of their calls. This has led to the rise of something called Naked Broadband.

Naked Broadband is, essentially, exactly what you're asking for: an ADSL2+ connection without the home phone. In fact, when you have Naked Broadband, your provider will tie off your phone line, meaning that even if you plug a phone into the wall, you cannot make or receive any calls.

If you want to go for Naked Broadband, I'd recommend a provider called MyNetFone. MyNetFone tend to offer incentives to sign up on a twelve month contract; particularly, their set-up fees are significantly lower than other providers, as they may offer you a free modem and several months at a discount. Call them now on 1300 106 571.

However, I have to wonder why you are so adamant about not wanting a home phone. Is it because you don't want to pay for a service that you won't be using? In that case, I would recommend that rather than searching for a good Naked Broadband deal, you look for a provider who will offer you an inexpensive home phone and broadband bundle that doesn't include any free calls.

"Hang on," you might be thinking, "won't I still be paying for a service I don't need? If I don't want a home phone, why should I pay for line rental?"

Well, this is one of the greatest misconceptions around the idea of ADSL2+ in Australia at the moment. You see, the "phone line" that you pay rental fees for is in fact a "copper line". This line carries both your phone and your broadband connection into your house. That means that no matter what, if you have ADSL2+, you will be using that line, and your provider will be factoring in the line rental fees they have to pay to Telstra Wholesale for it.

As a result, Naked Broadband is not cheaper than getting a good bundle deal. Indeed, Naked Broadband is often more expensive – possibly because of the added difficulty in setting it up, possibly because the provider knows they won't be getting any unexpected revenue from calls from you. I'd recommend that if you really want the best bargain on an unlimited plan, you go for an inexpensive home phone and internet bundle from one of the two following providers.

TPG: 1300 106 571
Dodo: 1300 136 793

Both providers will be able to give you unlimited internet with the home phone for around $59.99 a month.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, give us a call on 1300 106 571.

Mikaella.
