I have a Telstra home phone at the moment with Spin as my ISP, but would like to convert to broadband only (no home phone).
My suburb is Sippy Downs, 4556. Neither Optus nor iPrimus is able to supply me with the required service. Can you recommend a plan for around $50 or less per month? Currently I am paying Telstra $20 per month for the line and Spin $50 per month for 5 GB untimed. iPrimus wanted $40 for the internet and $30 for the mandatory phone, so no point apart from the extra download they were offering. Dodo ADSL2+ Metro 100GB interests me, but can they supply the service at my exchange?

If you would like to have an ADSL2+ broadband connection without an active phone line, it is called Naked DSL. It’s arbitrary which broadband providers have enabled Naked DSL at the Sippy Downs exchange, so you’ll need to call around. We did a rough check and it looks like Exetel (1300 106 571) and iiNet (1300 106 571) may be able to offer you the Naked DSL service there. However, you’ll need to call them in order to find out if they have ports available at the present time, as sometimes there are so many customers all the available equipment becomes rented out.
Exetel is one of the cheapest Naked DSL providers in Australia, with its Exetel ONA plan starting at $43 per month with 10GB in peak and 180GB in off-peak. Plans are 12 months in length and cost $60 to set-up. The Exetel ONB Naked DSL plan offers 30GB in peak and 180GB in off-peak for only $5 more a month at $53. This is a lot more data than what you currently receive with Spin, and you won’t need to pay Telstra $20 anymore for landline rental.
I am unsure about which services Dodo can provide at the Sippy Downs exchange. Call Dodo (1300 136 793) to find out if they have Naked DSL in your location. However, you should know Dodo only offers 2GB on its $39.99 per month Dodo Naked DSL plan. This probably won’t be suitable for your needs, as you are obviously looking for more download data than you currently use.
You could go for the Dodo ADSL2+ Metro 100GB bundle you mentioned, but it will cost around $60 in total ($29.90 for landline rental and $29.90 for the broadband), with 30 GB in peak and 70GB in off-peak. Call Dodo on the number above to check for availability.
iiNet has very good Naked DSL plans that come with 100GB, split 50GB in peak and 50GB in off-peak, but at $59.95 it’s also a little over your desired $50 monthly budget. With a VoIP modem iiNet offers unlimited VoIP phone calls to both local and national numbers for an extra $9.95 per month. Call iiNet (1300 106 571) for more information about its Naked DSL plans.
