I am currently on a $40 plan with Exetel which I have been advised will be going up $10 in Feb. I am disconnecting my house phone so want to look at what plan is best. I have just brought an iPad so I want to connect my PC and my iPad up with it. Can you please help and tell me which is the best way for me to go?

Don't disconnect your home phone just yet. If you can only get an ADSL connection at your home, you will need an active home phone line to access an internet connection.
If you want to move from Exetel to another ADSL provider, you may be able to churn. In most cases, this means a faster switchover and in some cases it also means reduced or even free set-up costs.
On the other hand, if you are in an ADSL2+ area, you may be able to get a Naked DSL connection. Naked DSL is ADSL2+ internet without the need for an active phone line, so you are not paying any line rental.
However, Naked DSL providers require an active phone line before installing the service, so disconnecting your home phone service at this stage will cause problems.
If you are not planning to use your home phone, you could either look at Naked DSL plans or a cheap home phone and broadband bundle. Often, bundles are cheaper than Naked DSL plans so even if you never pick up the phone to make a call, it is worth having the phone service to take advantage of cheap internet plans.
