I’m looking for a fast internet connection for reliable online ps3 gaming (to connect wireless) as well as medium use on a PC (10-20GB).
We have a phone line into our house but it is not connected. We all have mobiles on plans so do not need to make any more calls. What plans and setup style would you advise for our home?

I would recommend setting up ADSL1 or ADSL2+ broadband in your home for a fast internet connection. Which type of connection you sign up for will depend on what is available in your area. ADSL2+ is the preferred option as the plans tend to be a bit cheaper, the download speeds are faster (up to 24Mbps) and you won’t necessarily need to have an active home phone line.
You can still get fast speeds on ADSL1 (up to 20Mbps) and you could bundle a home phone service with the ADSL1 broadband to get a cheaper deal. I would recommend a speed of at least 1500Kbps to use with your PS3 if you sign up for an ADSL1 plan.
TPG (1300 106 571) has some very cheap ADSL2+ home phone and broadband bundle plans. Even if you are not after a home phone service, these plans are still hard to beat even on Naked DSL (ADSL2+ broadband without an active home phone connection). There is a plan which is $59.99 per month and offers unlimited broadband, so you won’t have to worry about exceeding your monthly data quota each month. This price also includes the home phone line rental, so even if you don’t make any phone calls from the home phone, the plan is still great value.
There is a choice between a six-month ($129.95) and 18-month ($79.95) contract on TPG’s bundle packages, and I would recommend purchasing a Wi-Fi modem so that your PS3 can pick up the signal. If you purchase a Wi-Fi modem directly from TPG it will cost $159.95 including delivery.
If the TPG package isn’t available to your address and you can only get ADSL1 in your area, iiNet has an affordable home phone and broadband bundle deal. For $79.90 per month iiNet will provide you with 50GB during peak hours (8am-2am) and 50GB during off peak hours (2am-8am). This price also includes the home phone line rental.
The plan is available either on a 24-month or no fixed-term contract. If you sign up for 24 months, you will receive a discount of up to $100 on your modem. iiNet offers the BoB Lite Wi-Fi modem for only $99. The BoB Lite modem also has four network ports so you can plug in up to four devices such as your computer or PS3 directly into the modem. It also has two USB ports for adding files and storage, and charging your USB-powered devices. To find out more about iiNet’s home phone and ADSL1 broadband plans you can call them directly on 1300 106 571.
