What's the best ISP without contract?

Thanks, Fern

09/08/2011

Hi Fern,

Month-to-month contracts are available from several providers, either on mobile broadband, ADSL or ADSL2+ plans.

You can find a list of the best no contract ISPs here.

As an Internet Service Provider (ISP) would prefer to lock new customers into long contracts, month-to-month plans are often more expensive to set up than 12 or 24-month plans.

Free modems and other benefits are also unlikely to be offered on short-term contracts.

However, there are advantages to month-to-month contracts. You can cancel with just one month's notice with no penalty to pay, which is ideal if you live in temporary accommodation, or want the freedom to switch to a better deal in the future.

iiNet has relatively low set-up fees on its month-to-month plans, charging just $79.95. This is the same set-up fee as the 24-month contract, the only difference is you will not receive a $100 discount on a modem.

ADSL2+ plans from iiNet start from $29.95 a month for 10GB, when bundled with a $29.95 home phone line. iiNet has a wide range of plans available, including Naked DSL, VoIP and FetchTV. Give iiNet a call on 1300 106 571 for advice on the right plan for your needs.

Dodo also offers month-to-month contracts, with a set-up fee of $99. This cost reduces to $69 on a 12-month contract and $0 on a 24-month contract. Dodo plans start from $19.95 for 5GB on an ADSL2+ plan. Give Dodo a call on 1300 136 793 for more information on plans.

All Club Telco plans are offered on a month-to-month basis, as this ISP believes broadband plans should be simple and without long lock-in periods. There are no set-up costs; instead, Club Telco charges an annual $50 membership fee.

Club Telco offers a 10GB plan for $30 or an unlimited plan for $50 at ADSL2+ speeds or ADSL where ADSL2+ is unavailable. Give Club Telco a call on 1300 138 155.

Most mobile broadband providers also offer no contract plans if you prefer. Usually you will need to buy a USB modem (also known as a 'dongle').

We've made it a bit easier to find the best no contract broadband plans by selecting our favourites, but you can also use our broadband plan finder tool to find your perfect plan.

Hope this helps,

Sarah
