I'm completely hopeless, I'm looking to get internet at home, hopefully spending between 20-30 per month.
I use it mostly for emails, Facebook but also want to get into trading - not sure if that will affect download speeds? I don't think I'd be downloading any movies/music and sometimes go onto youtube but not fussed if it will affect my cost drastically. I saw the TPG 50gb for 29.90 a month - I thought this sounded like heaps of download, but then in their description it says ideal for the occasional user? Argh help can you suggest something please? Roxanne.

Hi Roxanne,
The 50GB TPG plan would be fine. We don't suggest this standalone ADSL2+ plan for heavy users because it is split into peak and off-peak times, so you would only be able to use 25GB during the peak (day and evening) times.
But from the way you describe your internet use, I would recommend looking at light plans anyway, around 10-30GB in the peak times.
25GB would be more than enough for Facebook, emails, surfing and the occasional YouTube video. You will have plenty of data left to download movies and music files too.
This is a good plan if you want to keep your home phone line with your current provider. Call us on 1300 106 571 to find out if TPG plans are available in your area.
I would also recommend giving Club Telco a quick call on 1300 138 155 to find out if the 10GB plan is available in your area. This plan costs $30 a month plus an annual membership fee of $50. There is no set-up fee, no relocation fees and no extra charge if you pay by credit card. You are also assigned a personal account manager who you can call if you have any problems, instead of being passed around a call centre.
Standalone plans are not the cheapest option. If you switch your phone service over to TPG and sign up to both services as a bundle, you will get more data for your money.
For example, TPG offers a 20GB plan with 10GB in the peak time, 10GB in the off peak for just $9.99 when bundled with a $30 home phone line. You can start on this plan and upgrade later to the 100GB plan, with 50GB in the peak and 50GB in the off peak, for $19.99 a month plus the $30 home phone service.
TPG will include all your local phone calls for an extra $5 a month, but if you want national calls included as well you should take a look at Optus Fusion plans. Fusion plans start at $79 a month and includes unlimited local calls, national calls and calls to Optus mobiles, plus 120GB to use anytime. Call Optus on 1300 137 897 for more information.
Don't worry about download speeds – your internet activities won't affect the speed.
Hope this helps you to find the right internet plan,
Sarah
