I don't have a fixed home phone line connected as I refuse to deal with Telstra.
I'm unable to get Optus as my home phone carrier in this area (Warner QLD) We currently use 2 Optus pre paid mobiles and 1 on an Optus plan and buy Optus pre paid wi-fi broadband. Was wondering if Optus has anything else in the way of wi-fi b'band that I could use without a fixed line connection. Peter.

Hi Peter,
Sounds like you have had some problems dealing with Telstra in the past. I can suggest a couple of options for your situation, then you can decide what best suits you.
Optus is unavailable to you in your area, but have you considered a bundle deal with another Internet Service Provider (ISP) over your Telstra phone line?
The contact with Telstra would be minimal, as the ISP would set up the phone and internet connection (using a Telstra technician). You would be billed through the ISP and would not have to go through Telstra's customer service at all.
If that sounds acceptable, then you may have a few options for ADSL or ADSL2+ through your phone line. Warner, Queensland is likely to be considered a regional area so you may not be able to access the cheapest ADSL2+ plans but a fast ADSL should at least be available.
For example, iiNet offers 20GB (split 10GB in the peak, 10GB in the off peak) for $29.95 a month on a 1500kbps speed when bundled with a $29.95 home phone plan, costing $59.90 a month in total.
If you sign up for 24 months on this plan, iiNet is currently offering a free SIM card and six months free on its Casual Conversation mobile plan, usually $20 a month.
You can call iiNet on 1300 106 571 for more details on this plan and to find out if it is available in your area.
Alternatively, try Club Telco. Call Club Telco on 1300 138 155 and ask about bundling a home phone line with a light plan, which costs $30 for 10GB anytime. All Club Telco plans are offered month-to-month and there is no set-up fee, although there is a $50 annual membership fee.
If you prefer to stick with your mobile broadband and avoid the landline telephone altogether, Optus has a range of month-to-month mobile broadband plans that could be better value for you.
If you want to connect several devices at once, you will need a Wi-Fi modem, such as the E586. This is a small device that looks similar to a dongle, but does not need to be plugged into a computer. You can connect up to five devices at once.
This modem is free on a $29.95 data plan with 4GB a month on a 12-month contract.
Call Optus on 1300 768 194 for more details on this plan.
Hope this helps,
Sarah
