Will I have to connect a home phone in order to get internet?

Hi Oliver,
What you're asking for, although you might not be aware of it, is how to get Naked Broadband. Naked Broadband is a broadband connection that ties off your phone line, so that you cannot receive or make phone calls. It may seem useful and money saving, but it's important to keep in mind that Naked Broadband comes with some of the greatest misconceptions around it than any other internet service.
First and foremost, the most common reason people decide to get Naked Broadband is because they think that, as they won't be using a phone, paying for phone line rental is a waste. However, your broadband internet comes through the same line as your phone service. You will still have to pay line rental in order to get Naked Broadband! Internet Service Providers (ISPs) may call it something else, but the charge will be there. Therefore, paying for Naked Broadband is likely to be the same price or, often, more expensive than getting a bundle deal. If you don't want to use a home phone, simply don't plug one in. It will still be cheaper than getting Naked Broadband.
To return to your question, though: yes, there are some ISPs who will give you Naked Broadband without the need to connect a home phone at all. Other ISPs, such as TPG, will require you to have an active landline first that they can then tie off in order to give you Naked Broadband.
iPrimus offers a Naked DSL Starter Plus Broadband Plan, which will give you 40GB for $49.95/month. It's available on a 12 month contract with a set-up fee of $129. You can call iPrimus for more information or to sign up on 1300 137 794.
If you feel like 40GB won't be enough for you, you could try Internode. Internode offers their Easy Naked DSL 200GB Broadband Plan for $79.95/month. Internode are great if you don't want a contract, as they offer month-to-month contracts, and their set-up fee is $129. For more information or to sign up with Internode, call us on 1300 106 571.
There are many other great Naked Broadband plans, though as I mentioned, some of them will need you to have an already active landline. However, if you don't mind having an active but unused landline, a bundle deal might be another good option.
TPG offer a great bundle deal for unlimited internet. The ADSL2+ Unlimited TPG Broadband Plan Plus Home Phone will give you unlimited internet for $59.99/month including the phone line rental. That works out to be a lot cheaper than some of the Naked Broadband deals, and if you're a heavy internet user, it might be the option for you. For more information or to sign up with TPG, call us on 1300 106 571.
I hope this helps! Please do get in contact with us (1300 106 571) if you have any further questions, and we'd be happy to help.
Mikaella.
