I'm looking at establishing a new broadband + phone connection. We rarely use the phone (and only need it because we can't get naked ADSL). What is odd is that the Optus and Telstra bigpond sites tell us that no internet service apart from mobile broadband (which I have) is available; however, all our neighbours have ADSL connections. I believe the online 'check your address' forms may not be working as intended. Would you be able to help us please? I am primarily after a fairly low volume usage (maybe 10gb/month) but as high speeds as I can get :)

Hi Vincent,

Was it that the Optus and Bigpond websites told you that you couldn't get internet, or that their customer service representatives told you couldn't get internet?

I looked up your address and it seems that you should be able to get internet, but it might be that Telstra and Optus have looked at your property and copper line connection (where the phone and internet comes through) and found some flaw that we can't see just from checking your address and phone line.

You could be on a pear gain or a RIM, and in either case it's going to be very difficult if not impossible for you to get ADSL2+.

However, if it was just the website that told you, it's pretty likely that something's gone wrong with the site, because it does seem to me that you'd be able to get internet. As for speed – the speed you get is not dependent upon which Internet Service Provider (ISP) that you select, but rather how far you are from your telephone exchange. Looking at your place on the map, I can tell you that your closest exchange is the Oremeau Exchange, and judging by your distance from it, you could expect internet speeds of around 9000kpbs. It's fast internet!

Here are some great bundle deals for the light user.

Exetel offers a 20GB Broadband Plan Plus Home Phone for $39.50 that also includes 9000 minutes of free calls to local numbers, national numbers, and Optus mobiles. You can call us to find out more about Exetel on 1300 106 571.

Dodo offers a 10GB ADSL2+ Bundle Plan for $39.80. The broadband is split into 5GB peak and 5GB off-peak, however, so be sure that you won't be using more than that. You can call Dodo on 1300 136 793.

Finally, Eftel offer 10GB anytime for $39.95/month on the Eftel ADSL2+ Broadband Home Bundle Deal. You can call them for more information on 1300 768 452.

If you have any other further questions or want to talk about any other deals, you can call us on 1300 106 571.

I hope this helps!

Mikaella.

Hi Vincent. Basically you're going to have to call the ISPs you want to talk to in order to find out whether they can provide internet in your area. I can help you with Exetel, but I'm going to need a more detailed address than "Ormeau". Give me a call on 1300 106 571 and I'll help you! Mikaella.

Also, reading the profile on Exetel - do they have an exchange presence at the Ormeau exchange? That is important before I consider signing up to Exetel. Thanks Vincent

Hi Mikaela, Thanks for your response. It was the Optus/Bigpond online services that said I couldn't get internet which was very confusing. How do I confirm that I can get ADSL 2+? Regards Vincent
