Hi Tony,
A bundle deal is a good idea in this case, as you will be connecting a phone and internet line. Naked ADSL is probably not what you're going to need in this instance – basically, it's internet without the phone line, so you will be unable to make or receive calls. Even if making and receiving calls aren't part of your business, or if you decide that you're more attracted to a service like VOIP, bundle deals are often cheaper and better value, and if you don't want to use the phone, no one's forcing you to plug a phone in!
When it comes to speed, your internet speed is going to depend upon how far you are from your telephone exchange. The closer you are, the faster it will be, but as long as you are within a three kilometre radius it should be "supersonic", and even if you're further away – say 4-5km – it should still be fast enough for your needs.
Cable, on the other hand, is a much faster connection, as it is designed specifically for broadband connections. The difficulty will be getting cable in your area, as it is still not widely available. You can call Optus on 1300 137 897 to see if they can provide cable in your area and check their prices.
If you decide to go with ADSL2+, there are more options open to you. However, because the speed will be the same no matter what provider you go with, you'll need to make your choice based on other aspects, like price and customer service. Customer service options are something you'll usually work out for yourself, but I'll just let you know that most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use offshore call centres these days. You might have to look to other services for great customer service – for example, Club Telco have a dedicated account manager for every customer, so you will never have to explain the history of problems you've had with your account: they'll already know them!
Here are some of our favourite bundle deals:
TPG offers great value bundle deals. You could try the Unlimited Broadband and Home Phone plan for $59.99/month. Give us a call on 1300 106 571 to find out more or sign up today.
If you're a lighter user, consider Exetel. Exetel offers the OT-20 40GB Broadband and Home Phone plan for $39.50/month. Give us a call on 1300 106 571 to find out more or sign up today.
If you value a bundle deal that will get you some free calls along with your internet, Optus might be the way to go. Take a look at the Optus Fusion 120GB Broadband and Home Phone plan, which for $79.00/month will give you free calls to local, national, and Optus mobile numbers. Give Optus a call on 1300 137 897.
I hope this helps!
Mikaella.
