- Rumours of new Amazon tablet to rival iPad
- Tablet follows the success of Amazon Kindle
- New device rumoured to be seven inches with a coloured touchscreen
A new challenger to Apple’s iPad may arrive on our shores this week as Amazon has invited media to a press conference to be held in New York on Wednesday.
Industry experts have expected online retailer Amazon to expand into the tablet market for some time, following the success of their e-book reader, the Kindle has had for the last few years. Experts have also predicted the price of the new Amazon tablet is likely to be low to attract new customers and entice them with other Amazon goods and services.
The TechCrunch blog has predicted the new device to also be called Kindle, it will be seven inches in length, and feature a full-coloured touchscreen. They have estimated a cost of $US250, and the device will use the Google Android platform.
