Security lock

Singtel Optus has partnered with global security provider McAfee to launch a new security solution to protect devices connected to home or business modems.

Optus WiFi Secure

In its commitment to keep Australians safe, Optus introduced Optus WiFi Secure—the latest in its cyber safety-focused partnerships that is available in all new and existing Optus Family Internet Plans. It works by actively monitoring for malicious online threats at the router level and protecting connected devices from any attempts to access the user’s home WiFi network. A statement from the company said it could monitor everything from smart devices, security cameras to baby monitors and home security systems.

The security software isn’t completely a new idea and it’s something you can find in other network routers and devices. McAfee, for instance, has worked with D-Link in the past for something similar. The same goes for other IT leaders like Norton, Linksys, and Trend Micro that also did a type of security in their routers.

Web Security and Protection

However, if you’re a little concerned about what you or your family members check out online—not to mention the scams and other risks proliferating online—such a security solution can let you have some peace of mind, particularly when it’s all too easy to forget that the web isn’t completely a safe place.

Research suggests that security ranks as the most important feature amongst families, with 66% of people considering that as a factor when purchasing a smart device. With the new Optus WiFi secure, the telco aims to meet that demand for security by providing tools to help users protect their sensitive data while browsing the Internet.

“As part of our vision to be Australia’s most loved, everyday brand, we believe it’s our responsibility to assist our customers to maintain a sense of security when connecting online through our network,” Optus Managing Director of Marketing and Revenue, Matt Williams said in the statement.

"In light of this, we are thrilled to be partnering with McAfee, a highly trusted organisation within the cyber protection space to ensure our customers are being taken care of by the very best in the business,” he added.
