Now that the deal has been closed, Woolworths Mobile will be selling Spacetalk’s smartwatch through the supermarket chain’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). The smartwatch comes with a device and prepaid plan as part of a bundled offering. MVNOs are communication service providers reselling wireless communications services. These companies don’t run their own infrastructure but instead, they use the capacity from Mobile Network Operators (MNO) in order for them to deliver services.

James McMurrough, Head of Woolworths Mobile says, “At Woolworths Mobile, we are always looking at ways to bring value to our customers, and smartphone watches are the fastest growing category of wearables. We are very excited to enter a partnership with Spacetalk, enhancing the value proposition for Woolworths Mobile customers.” Woolworths Mobile uses Telstra’s 4G and 3G mobile network, Australia’s trusted network.

Woolworths Mobile will be launching Spacetalk’s original Kids “smartphone watch” which is going to give customers 5% off the device’s Recommended Retail Price (RRP) provided that they buy the $20+ prepaid plan bundle. According to Spacetalk, the MVNO of Woolworths is considered as a “significant new distribution channel” with “strong potential to enhance Spacetalk’s reach and engagement through the Woolworths Group.”

For his part, Chief Executive Officer of Spacetalk, Mark Fortunatow explains, “Woolworths is a household name synonymous with mass market retail and trusted by consumers. The said phone-in-watch device shall be featured in the digital catalogues of Woolworths supermarket and the same shall be included in the marketing emails targeted to the Woolworths Everyday Rewards base. The smartwatch shall likewise be presented in the SMS campaigns designed for Woolworths Mobile customers.
