Everything you need to know about Home Wireless Broadband

What is Home Wireless Broadband?

Home Wireless Broadband is an alternative to other home broadband technologies as it is powered by 4G, and in frequently occurring cases, 5G. A Home Wireless modem can connect to the internet remotely, using mobile phone networks, though there is also wireless broadband service delivers via satellite technology.

What are the advantages of Home Wireless Broadband?

Home Wireless is an excellent option if you’re a renter, or you’re frequently moving home, or you dislike being locked into contracts, or if you simply live in an area where ADSL2+ and NBN technologies are scarce. Not only are Home Wireless modems quite strong, and are a bit more damage resistant than other modems, but Home Wireless is also very affordable, and it is typically faster than ADSL. In many cases, Home Wireless is also faster than some NBN connections, as there are certain NBN connections that don't perform at the same level at other NBN connections; but unfortunately, NBN customers don't get to choose what NBN connection their neighbourhood  is given (this unfavourable predicament is referred to as the NBN Lottery).

What are the disadvantages of Home Wireless Broadband?

Home Wireless Broadband modems do require a constant power source, but this is par for the course for this kind of technology. Additionally, though the average Home Wireless Broadband plan offers a terrific amount of data, they often have their speed capped at around 12Mbps, which isn’t ideal; however, that is still faster than most ADSL connections, and is at least equal to a basic NBN connection.

What's the difference between Home Wireless Broadband and Mobile Broadband?

The difference between Home Wireless Broadband and Mobile Broadband is that Home Wireless Broadband uses a router and is specifically designed as an alternative to traditional fixed lined internet connections.

What are the best Home Wireless Broadband Plans?

Unfortunately there’s no easy answer for this, as the best Home Wireless Broadband Plan for your neighbour may not be the best Home Wireless Broadband Plan for you! Optimal home broadband very much boils down to what the individual needs the internet for, and how often they need it. For instance, someone who streams a season of online TV a night won’t need the same data and speed as someone who’s online two minutes a day to check their email. If you're one of the many Aussie broadband customers who feel more comfortable with a tried and true brand name when picking out a telco, you might want to consider an Optus Home Wireless Broadband Plan which offers you 4G connectivity of around 200GB to 500GB for $65 and $85 a month, and comes with the Home Wireless modem. Alternatively, if you're looking for a something a little bit faster, then you may want to consider a Telstra Home Wireless Broadband plan, which offers a much speedier 5G coverage that can connect up to twenty devices simultaneously; Telstra Home Wireless Broadband plans range between $56 and $116, depending on how much speed you need!

Another factor you'll need to consider when choosing a Home Wireless braodband plan (or really, when choosing ANY kind of broadband plan) is how many people in your household will be using the internet, and whether or not they will all be using it at the same time. What is 5G?

As mentioned above, certain Home Wireless plans are now equipped with the super speedy 5G. If you've not heard of 5G, you soon will, as it's predicted to become the predominant choice of cellular technology. 5G is the next evolutionary step beyond 4G, and early reports are citing that 5G is so fast that it will give you download speeds between 1 and 3Gbps, operate smoothly across multiple devices simultaneously, and support around 1,000 HD movies. Though 5G is still hard to come across in Australia at the time of writing, it's expected it will become a mainstay in Australia as soon as 2020, and if those speeds are anything to go by, it may even end up being the nail in the NBN's coffin. Time will tell! Reportedly, there Telstra will be providing more prominent 5G coverage by June of 2020, but only in select locations such as Sydney, Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide and the Gold Coast; the Gold Coast, incidentally, is where Telstra first trialled a free 5G public hotspot at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. But it may be worth knowing that there are certain people who believe that the 5G technology may emit unsafe radiation, with the city of Brussels going as far as banning 5G in April of 2019, citing that 5G breached their government's strict radiation laws. However, at the time of writing, Australian scientists and officials have decreed that 5G is perfectly safe for public use. You can read more about 5G here
