NBN Refunds $3.1M in CVC Payments for October

Late last week, NBN Co told retail service providers (RSPs) that COVID relief credit payments amounting to $3.1 million will be issued. This is to help meet last month’s increased CVC capacity demands. The increase in demand was a result of the lockdowns imposed in New South Wales and Victoria.

NBN Co also introduced a new calculation that compares the monthly data utilisation of each retailer against a 25 percent growth threshold based on their May 2021 baseline. This new calculation was reflected in the October payment. As a result, the total amount of COVID relief credit payments that NBN has already provided to the industry is about $14 million. This was only in July of this year.

According to NBN Co, it would continue to provide rebates through the last months of the year. However, it is still unclear if this situation may change, mainly since lockdowns are slowly being lifted across the country.

Focus on Fast Rebate:

Meanwhile, on other rebates, early this year, NBN promised to provide a Focus on Fast Rebate to RSPs for each eligible AVC for each billing period that falls within the rebate period applicable to that AVC wherein the AVC fosters a fast bandwidth profile. The amount of the rebate varies depending on the AVC profile. For instance, a rebate of $8 will be provided to AVC TC-4 with downstream Mbps of 25-50 and upstream Mbps of 5-20. In this case, the eligible AVC encompasses service transfer upgrade as well as existing modified upgrade.

On the other hand, a rebate of $2 will be provided to the same AVC with home fast. In this case, the eligible AVC encompasses first time connect in addition to service transfer upgrade as well as existing modify upgrade. For home superfast, the rebate is said to be $12 while for home ultrafast, the rebate is set at $24.

Other Discounts, Credits, and Rebates

Following the NBN Ethernet Price list, NBN moved to offer more discounts, credits, and rebates. One of these that started in August of this year is the Superfast Plus Rebate. Others that began in January of this year include the Forward Rebate and the Fast Anytime 100 Rebate. Meanwhile, the Business First Rebate as well as the Illuminate Program Discount started in March this year. Some of the other rebates that will commence next year include the FTTC Installation Rebate and Waivers and the HFC Installation Waivers and Rebate.
