  • Why Should I Get an NBN plan?

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has released its Measuring Broadband Australia (MBA) Program report which lists the performances of the broadband service providers in Australia. The MBA seeks to provide the consumers with the precise and accurate data about the performances of the broadband providers to help them in making decisions.

In the latest reports, Optus has bagged the crown for ranking first in broadband performance among the other network service providers which include Aussie Broadband, Dodo, Vodafone, Telstra, Exetel, iiNet, iPrimus, MyRepublic, and TPG.

Speed Performance

Optus service consumers are seen to receive 90% of their plans’ maximum download speed during busy hours which runs from 7 pm to 11 pm. The dethroned king TPG which ranked second now has achieved a 89.2% performance rate on the current report. Aussie Broadband and MyRepublic are having a tight fight with the former garnering 88.5% and the latter 88.4% performance rate. Fifth on rank are Exetel and iiNet which got 87.9%.

Only three among the deck of internet service providers were able to increase the bandwidth percentage their consumers receive during busy hours compared to their services’ maximum speed which are Optus, Telstra, and Exetel.

The ACCC has reiterated and emphasised that ISPs should provide their customers with what they have promised or else their attention will be surely called upon. "If consumers are not getting what was promised by their providers, they should contact them to ask about getting the problem fixed or moving onto a cheaper plan where the speeds are attainable."

According to ACCC’s report, most of ISP’s speed performances have improved amidst the surge on the internet service demand because of the new normal. This is attributed to the fact that the National Broadband Network (NBN) provided 40% capacity in anticipation of the spike in connectivity demand.
