After several months of testing, Telstra now offers consumers their 5G Home and Business Internet service, which promises incredibly fast internet speeds. Just late yesterday, the telco officially launched its 5G broadband offensive, announcing a 5G plan with a price point and speeds that can beat those of its comparable NBN offers.
To keep everything simple, Telstra opted for a single product with a 1TB download quota for only $85 a month. It also comes with one month free. With this, a subscriber will already be able to stream high-definition videos for over 330 hours. The best part is that this plan comes with no lock-in contracts or exit fees, provided the subscriber returns their modem.
According to Telstra, the average typical download speed on the service is 378Mbps during the 7 pm-11 pm period, but the typical evening speeds can range from 50Mbps to 600Mbps. On the other hand, the typical upload speeds on the service are said to range between 10Mbps and 90Mbps.
The official launch of the telco’s 5G broadband service brings all three mobile network operators in a tough competitive state. All have fixed wireless offers based on the standard in the market. The price points of their offerings handily beat or at least compete strongly with their equivalent NBN products.
As for Telstra, its 50Mbps NBN plan costs $95 a month, while its 100Mbps NBN service is priced at $110. The former is a standard plus speed plan that boasts a download speed of 50Mbps and upload speed of 17Mbps. The latter is a premium speed plan that offers a download speed of 100Mbps and an upload speed of 17Mbps. Superfast and Ultrafast services cost $140 and $180 per month, respectively. Its cheapest NBN25 offer is $80, but on selected internet plans, subscribers can even get their first month for only $1.
According to Telstra fixed connectivity group owner Sanjay Nayak, “5G Home Internet will allow most households to stream a 4K movie, jump into a video call for work and download a new game for your Xbox at the same time. This is particularly useful if your existing broadband is not delivering the performance you need.”
“5G Business Internet will allow small business customers to have multiple staff working at the same time and give them access to the speeds they need to be competitive and responsive to their customer needs.”
Still, according to Nayak, the feedback from Telstra’s current base of 5G Home Internet customers had been “extremely positive”.
