FAQs

Which internet provider in Sydney has the best speed?

Aussie Broadband delivers 95 Mbps or more on nbn® 100 plans during peak hours. It often ranks first in independent speed tests. Superloop is close behind at around 90 Mbps. ACCC (2025). Compare both at your address through Compare Broadband to see current plan pricing.

What should I look for in an internet provider?

  • Check the monthly price after any intro discounts end.
  • Check the provider’s typical evening speed at 8pm, not the plan’s maximum.
  • Also check TIO complaint numbers, as a sign of service reliability.
  • Compare pricing and speeds through Compare Broadband to find the right fit.

Which nbn® provider has the best customer service?

Aussie Broadband and Superloop consistently record low TIO complaint volumes relative to their subscriber base. Customers frequently discuss Aussie Broadband's Australian-based support team in customer satisfaction surveys as a key differentiator.

Do I have to use the provider's modem?

No. Most internet providers allow a compatible third-party modem. Some charge a device fee for their supplied modem; others include it in the plan cost. For a full guide to modem compatibility across connection types, see nbn® compatible modems guide on Compare Broadband.

How do I switch broadband providers in Sydney?

Choose a new provider through Compare Broadband and sign up online. Your new provider handles the transfer with NBN Co for you. Most transfers do not need a technician visit. The process takes three to five business days and is free through Compare Broadband. For a step-by-step walkthrough, how to switch nbn® providers guide.

When I switch internet provider, will my connection cut out?

In most cases, switching your internet provider is fairly straightforward. It's rare to have any downtime at all when switching. It only occurs when you cancel your old service before your new connection date.

Are there any costs the provider may charge me?

Providers may charge a setup fee (often waived on promotional offers), or a modem cost if you need a new device. Compare plan fees side by side through Compare Broadband or call us on 1800 764 000 and we can walk you through the details.

Can I get the fibre upgrade in my Sydney apartment?

ydney apartments connect via FTTB (Fibre to the Building).
Fibre runs to the building's communications room. The final connection to each unit uses existing copper wiring. FTTB is a separate technology from FTTP and does not qualify for the free FTTP upgrade program. The free upgrade applies to addresses on FTTN or certain FTTC connections only.

Is my Sydney address eligible for a free fibre upgrade?

Addresses on FTTN may qualify for a free upgrade to full fibre. The National Broadband Network upgrade program offers this. Check your eligibility via the FTTP upgrade page on Compare Broadband.

Are there nbn® outages in Sydney?

NBN Co publishes planned maintenance through provider notifications. Your provider must communicate scheduled outages in advance. For unplanned faults, contact your provider's support line directly. The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman handles unresolved complaints if your provider does not resolve a fault within a reasonable timeframe.

Are you eligible for a FREE fibre upgrade?

The government is making 1.5 million Australian homes and businesses eligible for a speed upgrade to FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), which offers greater speed and reliability. Selected towns and suburbs with FTTC and FTTN are eligible for the upgrade with an eligible high speed nbn plan.
