Optus

Superloop

Superloop offers six NBN plans, with speeds starting from 25 Mbps for $65 per month. With its regular six-month introductory pricing, you’ll rarely pay full price for a Superloop plan. And while it doesn’t offer entertainment add-ons, Superloop does offer discounts of up to $15 per month when you bundle other services such as a home phone plan. It doesn’t charge setup fees and you can also switch between plans at no extra cost.

Tangerine Telecom

Tangerine has consistently received positive ratings for its range of flexible NBN plans, competitive pricing, easy setup, and reliable speeds. It offers unlimited data plans in different speed tiers, starting from $59.90 per month for NBN 25. 

All Tangerine NBN plans come with no lock-in contracts and interestingly, a 14-day NBN trial with a $0 setup fee. These features allow you to test the service without any commitment or switch between plans as necessary.

Telstra

Telstra is a premium NBN provider in Australia, with a significant presence in Queensland. Its Internet plans come in various speed tiers, starting from $85 per month for NBN 25. Although its pricing is above average, Telstra compensates with fast and reliable speeds, excellent customer service, and first-class entertainment options.

All Telstra plans include unlimited data, a Telstra Smart Modem 3 with 4G backup, and a home phone service with unlimited calls to landlines and standard Australian mobiles.

TPG

TPG offers some of the most budget-friendly NBN plans, delivering fast and reliable Internet connections in Australia, including Queensland. Its NBN 50 costs $74.99 per month with unlimited data and a maxed-out typical evening speed of 50 Mbps.

Although TPG doesn’t offer entertainment add-ons, its Internet plans offer the best value for money with high ratings in terms of customer satisfaction and network performance.

In today's competitive market, many providers offer ways to add value to your plan. This can include discounts, free entertainment, or simple, low rates. It's about finding the balance between cost and extras.

Fastest NBN Provider (ACCC)

The ACCC regularly conducts thorough speed tests and an analysis of various broadband providers and provides quarterly reports detailing the typical evening speed during peak hours and overall network performance.

For the most part, speeds from September's quarterly report are fairly similar to the June report, but with some slight shuffles. Here's a selection of unlimited NBN plans from the fastest providers covered by the ACCC Measuring Broadband Australia performance report.

We've shown providers in order of peak hour speed performance. We've included plans with NBN 50 or NBN 100 speeds as these are the speeds that will offer the best performance for most households. These plans are sorted by popularity, but we're only looking at options from the fastest speed tiers on offer. 

Exetel

Exetel reclaims the top spot this quarter with an outstanding performance. According to the latest broadband performance report by the ACCC, Exetel customers achieved an impressive 101.9% of maximum plan speeds during peak hours. 

Explore Exetel's range of plans, including those with NBN 50 or faster speeds. Exetel currently boasts typical evening speeds of 50Mbps for NBN 50 plans, 100Mbps for NBN 100 plans, 225 Mbps for NBN 250 plans, and a remarkable 400Mbps for NBN 500 plans.

Telstra

In the ACCC's September report, Telstra achieved 100.4% of maximum plan speeds during peak hours. Telstra's fastest plans offer typical evening speeds of 50Mbps for NBN 50 plans, 100Mbps for NBN 100 plans, and 250Mbps for NBN 250 plans.

Telstra's NBN plans are contract-free and include a powerful Telstra modem. You can switch providers anytime, but if you leave within the first 24 months, you'll need to return the modem or pay $200. Opting for a Telstra NBN plan also brings advantages like 4G backup during outages and the opportunity to earn points on your monthly bill through the Telstra Plus program.

Optus

Optus customers get great speeds, hitting 100.2% of maximum plan speeds during peak times, as per the latest ACCC report. Optus offers fast NBN plans with typical evening speeds of 50Mbps for NBN 50, 100Mbps for NBN 100, 240 Mbps for NBN 250, and a speedy 600Mbps for NBN 1000.

Optus NBN plans are contract-free, but if you leave within the first 36 months, you'll pay a prorated modem fee based on $8.50 for each remaining month. Optus also provides 4G backup on selected plans and savings through Optus SubHub when you link subscriptions.

How to switch NBN Internet providers?

Switching providers is easy if you're not in a contract. Here's how:

  1. Contact your new provider.
  2. Use our tool to check what's available at your place.

  5. Pick your contract length.
  6. Add any extras you need.

Activation time varies, usually taking less than a day, but it can be longer based on your location and tech type. We'll guide you through it.

NBN alternatives

While the government-owned NBN is the most widely available network in Australia, you have other options to access the Internet. Home wireless and private fibre networks like OptiComm may be viable alternatives in some cases.

Home Wireless Broadband 

Home wireless broadband plans use existing mobile networks such as 4G and 5G. It’s a plug-and-play solution that offers speeds of around 20-30 Mbps for 4G and 50-100 Mbps for 5G.

TPG, Optus, and Exetel are some of the providers that offer home wireless plans. While these plans are usually cheaper than the NBN, the downside is that the speeds are dependent on a number of factors such as signal strength and congestion. 

OptiComm

On the other hand, OptiComm is a private fibre network that delivers bespoke Internet services with usually less congestion and faster speeds than the NBN. But unlike NBN which operates on a wide scale, its fixed-line network is usually limited to new apartment buildings and newly developed housing estates.

Aussie Broadband, Exetel and Superloop are some of the telcos offering OptiComm plans via fixed-line FTTP technology and delivering download speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
