Perth has a wide range of internet providers offering nbn® plans across different speed tiers and pricing structures.

There is no one-size-fits-all for Perth internet providers. The right provider depends on your budget and how you use the internet. It also depends on whether you prioritise speed, customer support or flexibility.

Comparing providers side by side is the best way to find one that fits your household. It also helps you avoid overpaying.

FAQs

Do I have to use the nbn® provider's modem?

No. Most nbn® providers allow you to bring your own compatible modem (BYO modem). Check the provider’s compatibility requirements before buying a modem on your own. Not all modems work with every nbn® connection type.

How do I switch broadband providers in Perth?

Switching providers is straightforward. Choose a new plan through Compare Broadband, sign up with the new provider and they will manage the transfer process. Your existing service will continue until the transfer date. If you are on a no lock-in contract, there are no exit fees to pay.

Will my internet cut out when I switch providers?

Most provider switches on the nbn® network cause minimal or no downtime. We might experience a brief outage of a few hours on the transfer date, but we do not guarantee it. Your new provider will advise you of the expected transfer timeline.

Are there any costs the nbn® provider may charge me?

Potential charges vary by provider and plan. Common costs to check include a new development connection fee. This is usually about $300 for brand new premises. NBN Co charges this fee and the providers pass it on. Also check for modem or hardware fees. Check for early termination fees on fixed-term contracts. Switching through Compare Broadband is free and you pay the same price as going directly to the provider.

Can I get a free fibre upgrade in Perth?

Many Perth homes on FTTN or FTTC can get a free upgrade to FTTP (Fibre to the Premises). The upgrade is available at no cost to the household when you sign up for an eligible higher-speed plan. More than 500,000 WA premises can now access this upgrade (NBN Co, 2024).

Are there any nbn® outages in Perth?

nbn® outages do occasionally occur, typically because of planned maintenance or infrastructure faults. Your provider will usually notify you of planned outages in advance. For real-time outage information, contact your provider's support channel directly.

Are you eligible for a FREE fibre upgrade?

The government is making 1.5 million Australian homes and businesses eligible for a speed upgrade to FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), which offers greater speed and reliability. Selected towns and suburbs with FTTC and FTTN are eligible for the upgrade with an eligible high speed nbn plan.
