  • It’s also used for troubleshooting connection issues by providers and NBN Co.

Starting April 14th, 2025, all NBN customers will need to provide an AVC ID when switching providers. This unique identifier ensures a smooth and efficient transfer of your service.

But what is an AVC ID? Where do you find it? Does it make the switching process more complex?

We break down everything you need to know in our latest article.

What is an AVC ID?

An AVC ID, or Access Virtual Circuit Identifier, is a unique number assigned to your NBN (National Broadband Network) service. It is used to identify and manage your Internet connection, helping your provider and the NBN network coordinate and maintain your service.

Why will I need an AVC ID?

Starting in April 2025, you’ll need to provide your AVC ID when switching NBN providers. This is important because the AVC ID helps your new provider identify your existing connection, making the transfer process faster and smoother.

Without it, the switch could be delayed, as it would be harder to link your service to the right connection.

AVC IDs also play a key role in troubleshooting. If you ever experience issues with your NBN service, your provider and nbn co can use the AVC ID to quickly pinpoint and fix any problems.

What does an AVC ID look like?

An AVC ID typically appears as a long string of numbers and letters. It is unique to your connection and can be found on the paperwork from your current provider or in your account settings on their website. It’s important to keep track of this number as it is tied directly to your service.

You'll see examples of how to find yours by provider later in this article.

How do AVC IDs help?

AVC IDs help in several ways:

Smooth provider switch: When you switch NBN providers, your new provider can easily identify your existing connection using the AVC ID, allowing for a quicker and more accurate transfer.

Troubleshooting: If there are any issues with your connection, the AVC ID helps your provider and nbn co quickly locate and address the problem.

Where can I find my AVC ID?

You can find your AVC ID in a few places:

On your current provider’s paperwork or account details.

In your account settings on your provider’s website.

You can also contact your provider directly to ask for it if you’re unsure.

Does needing an AVC ID number to switch NBN providers make the process more complex?

No, needing an AVC ID to switch NBN providers doesn’t make the process more complex. It actually makes the switch smoother and faster by helping your new provider easily identify your existing connection.

In fact, you can provide us with your AVC ID via text, email, online chat or phone. We want to make it as easy for you as possible to switch providers and plans.

Is this process exclusive to Compare Broadband?

Nope! This new process is relevant to all NBN customers, not just one provider. Starting April 14th, 2025, every customer switching NBN providers will need to provide their AVC ID.
