- Optus NBN and mobile services down
- Business owners impacted
- Now could be a good time to switch providers
A major outage has impacted Optus mobile and NBN broadband customers today, with customers reporting issues with the network since about 4am.
The outage has impacted hospitals, business owners and regular customers across the country. For a period of time, even Melbourne's train network was impacted.
Business owners are reporting that EFTPOS terminals are down, so they are unable to receive payments.
Optus has confirmed it’s aware of the issue impacting both mobile and NBN services, and is working to restore services as soon as possible.
The issue has also impacted MVNO mobile carriers who use the Optus wholesale network for mobile plans, including Aussie Broadband and Amaysim.
While Optus hasn’t confirmed the reason for the outage, indications are that it is a technical issue rather than the result of another hack.
What can you do about the outage?
While there’s every chance the outage will end soon, for some customers - particularly those who were impacted by the Optus hack last year - it may be enough to make you consider switching.
