- NBN Co will boost speeds for top plans and introduce a "Home Hyperfast" tier from September 2025.
- Over 9 million premises will benefit, supporting faster streaming, gaming, and emerging tech like AI and VR.
- Businesses will get new high-speed options and price cuts on existing plans, improving Australia's digital infrastructure.
The NBN Co has announced it will accelerate the download and upload speeds of its top three wholesale products starting from September 14, 2025.
This upgrade will be available to internet retailers for both residential and business customers who connect via Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) technology.
As part of this initiative, NBN Co will significantly boost speeds across its popular wholesale products:
- The "nbn Home Fast" plan will increase from 100/20 Mbps to 500/50 Mbps.
- The "nbn Home Superfast" plan will triple its download speed from 250/25 Mbps to 750/50 Mbps.
- The "nbn Home Ultrafast" plan will see its upload speed double from 500/50 Mbps to 1000/100 Mbps.
Eligible customers will automatically receive the faster speeds once participating retailers offer the enhanced plans.
New ‘Home Hyperfast’ option
NBN Co also plans to introduce a new "nbn Home Hyperfast" tier offering multi-gigabit speeds, with 2,000/200 Mbps for FTTP connections and 2,000/100 Mbps for HFC connections. This comes after feedback from internet providers requesting higher speeds sooner.
Chief Customer Officer Anna Perrin stated, "The accelerated speed tiers are designed to enhance Australia’s digital capacity, making it future-ready for technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR)."
She added that over 9 million premises will benefit from these upgrades, supporting faster data consumption and seamless experiences for video streaming, gaming, and conferencing.
In addition to residential plans, NBN Co will roll out new high-speed options for businesses, including a 2 Gbps product with a dedicated service level agreement (SLA) to address outages within four hours.
Prices for existing business packages, such as 250/100 Mbps and 500/200 Mbps plans, will also be reduced, along with enhanced support services.
NBN Co’s fibre upgrade program, coupled with these accelerated speed tiers, is expected to bolster Australia’s digital infrastructure, increasing economic and social benefits for communities nationwide.
