If your new home or apartment is connected to the Opticomm network, you're among the growing number of Australians accessing some of the fastest fibre Internet connections available today.

Opticomm is Australia’s largest privately-owned Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network and continues to expand across new housing estates and developments nationwide.

However, it’s important to know that Opticomm isn’t available everywhere - it’s typically limited to properties where Opticomm fibre was installed during the construction phase, instead of the government-owned NBN network.

If you're trying to find the best Opticomm provider for your address, you're in the right place. With Compare Broadband, you can easily check your eligibility using our online tool or speak to one of our broadband experts to walk you through your options.

FAQs

Is Opticomm better than NBN?

Opticomm is faster than many NBN connections because it is all fibre and does not use any older technology. The majority of NBN connections use decades-old coaxial and copper wires as part of its connections, which can't transmit signals as fast as fibre-optic cables.

How do I connect to Opticomm?

If you've recently moved to an Opticomm connected area, it shouldn't be difficult to find a provider for your home connection. To find the best plans available, call us up at Compare Broadband. Our experts are always on the line to help you.

Is the Opticomm box a modem?

Opticomm plans usually come with a connection box that acts as your modem. You will need a separate Wi-Fi router to share the connection with devices around your home via Ethernet and Wi-Fi, which your Internet retailer should be able to provide.

Do you need an antenna for Opticomm?

You do not require an antenna on your roof to receive Internet from Opticomm, as it reaches your home via fibre-optic cable. The Opticomm cable also supplies all of the digital free-to-air television channels, so you do not need a television aerial on your roof either.

Is Opticomm owned by Telstra?

No, Opticomm is a wholly owned subsidiary of Uniti. Opticomm is not a retail Internet provider, instead it is a wholesaler – similar to the NBN. This means you don't sign up with Opticomm directly. Instead, you sign up with a retail Internet provider which then supplies Internet to your home via the Opticomm infrastructure.

Are you eligible for a FREE fibre upgrade?

The government is making 1.5 million Australian homes and businesses eligible for a speed upgrade to FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), which offers greater speed and reliability. Selected towns and suburbs with FTTC and FTTN are eligible for the upgrade with an eligible high speed nbn plan.
