Australian homes and small businesses are more connected than ever. People are using more devices at the same time and relying heavily on the internet.

From 1st July 2026, Telstra will make changes to some of its home and small business internet prices. These updates mainly affect selected nbn® plans. The Telstra price changes are being introduced to reflect higher network demand and increased wholesale costs.

Most customers will see a small monthly increase to their internet cost, while some higher-speed plans will stay the same price.

What is changing?

Telstra will increase the price of some nbn® home and small business plans from 1st July 2026. In most cases, the plan price change will be between $4 and $5 per month.

The company’s Premium 5G Home Internet plan will also increase by $10 per month. This is the first price rise for that service since it launched more than five years ago. At the same time, two newer and lower cost 5G network internet plans will remain unchanged to help you stay connected.

Customers affected by these changes will be contacted directly by Telstra. Communication will happen in the lead-up to the update so they understand how their plan is impacted.

The tables below show Telstra’s nbn® plans that include the Smart Modem 4 as part of the bundle:

Speed tier Old pricing New pricing
nbn® 12 $65 per month $70 per month
nbn® 25 $93 per month $97 per month
nbn® 50 $109 per month $113 per month
nbn® 100 $113 per month $113 per month
nbn® 500 $113 per month $113 per month
nbn® 750 $129 per month $129 per month
nbn® 1000 $139 per month $139 per month

And these tables show Telstra’s nbn® plans that are sold without a modem included.

nbn® 50 $95  per month $99 per month
nbn® 100 $99 per month $99 per month
nbn® 500 $99 per month $99 per month
nbn® 750 $119 per month $119 per month
nbn® 1000 $129 per month

$129 per month

What is not changing

Not all Telstra plans are affected by these updates. In particular, higher nbn® speed plans remain at the same price. This includes the Premium fibre-based options that offer speeds up to 500Mbps, along with Ultimate and Ultrafast tiers.

Telstra said it is keeping prices stable. This will support customers who move to fibre nbn® connections. More locations are becoming eligible for nbn® fibre upgrades.

The nbn® fibre upgrade program itself is also unchanged. This means eligible homes and businesses can still upgrade their connection type at no additional cost for standard installation.

Why these changes are happening

Telstra says the price changes are being made to support ongoing investment in its network and services. Internet usage in Australia continues to grow quickly with a reliance on faster internet speed and unlimited data.

Households stream more video and use more connected devices. They rely on cloud-based tools for work and study. They rely on a better internet service.

At the same time, wholesale costs from nbn® co have increased, which also influences retail pricing decisions across providers.

Telstra has also pointed to continued investment in network performance, the Telstra app, security systems, and customer support services. This includes tools designed to improve reliability and reduce downtime.

Internet use in Australia

Internet demand continues to grow across both households and businesses. Over the past decade, average data usage has increased significantly. This is due to the uptick of streaming, remote work, and cloud storage. These have become standard parts of daily life.

Upload speeds are also becoming more important, especially for video calls, file sharing, and content creation. As a result, demand for higher-speed internet plans continues to grow, particularly those at 100Mbps and above.

Plan choices and alternatives

Despite the price changes, Telstra continues to offer a range of plan options. Customers can choose between different speed tiers depending on their needs and budget. Both bundled and standalone internet plans remain available.

There are also 5G Home Internet options for customers who do not want a fixed-line connection. These include lower-cost plans starting from around $70 per month, with a modem included.

Telstra also offers alternative pricing options through its Belong brand, which provides different entry-level internet plans.

Support for customers

For customers who are experiencing financial difficulty, Telstra provides access to a range of support options.

These can include short-term payment help, longer-term payment plans, and help reviewing existing plans for lower-cost options.

Telstra also says it supported millions of customers in vulnerable circumstances over the past financial year. It did this through various assistance and community support programs.

Getting help or reviewing your plan

Customers affected by the price changes will be contacted directly by Telstra. However, anyone can review their plan at any time to check whether a different option may better suit their needs.

Support is available through phone, online services, and in-store teams, depending on customer preference.
