Home phone and Internet bundles allow you to get a simplified service for technical support and billing by dealing with one provider for both services.

Bundled plans may come with bonuses like free installation, upgraded speed, new devices, and discounted fees. Some providers offer rewards or promo codes to get started. Bundles are ideal for those who use local and international calling services.

For help getting connected, contact Compare Broadband for a quick comparison of providers and plans.

What are the best home phone and Internet bundles?

To find the ideal home phone and Internet bundle, consider your specific needs. You may require more data, while others seek additional free calls locally and internationally.

Typically, a phone and Internet bundle includes a data package, hardware (like a modem/router and necessary cabling), setup and connection fees, and free calls to landlines, Australian mobiles, international and national calls, and unlimited calls.

Internet service providers often offer add-ons for customisation, such as gamer perks or entertainment like PayTV. There's no one-size-fits-all approach, and at Compare Broadband, our experts can assist you in finding the perfect home phone and Internet bundle tailored to your requirements.

nbn® phone and Internet bundle plans

Choosing the cheapest home Internet plan may not always give you the best value. Plans vary, so it's crucial to research and compare providers and bundles to find the right fit for your needs.

Here are some tips for getting the right phone and Internet bundle:

  • Check if your current phone provider offers bundling deals. Many providers give discounts when you combine home phone and broadband services, saving you money each month.
  • Look for broadband services offering free installation to reduce initial costs. Some providers charge a one-time installation fee, usually cheaper than monthly service fees.
  • Explore companies offering discounts for specific customers, such as seniors or those with a military background.
  • Negotiate with your current Internet provider to see if it’ll lower your monthly bill, especially if you've been a loyal customer. It may be willing to work with you to keep your business.

Do you need a home phone with the nbn®?

In the pre-nbn® era, having a home phone was a prerequisite for Internet access. While there was an option for naked DSL, it usually incurred higher costs compared to bundling a home phone with Internet service.

The transition to the nbn® brought about some confusion, especially among those less familiar with technology, regarding the necessity of a home phone line with the new network.

However, with the nbn®, having a home phone line is no longer a requirement for accessing the Internet. This shift has simplified the process for many users and eliminated the need for an additional service that was once considered essential for connectivity.

Comparing internet speed tiers: What is a typical evening speed?

A typical evening speed is the peak period between 7pm and 11pm when most Internet users are online and clogging up the networks. So when we talk about the typical evening speed of an Internet plan, it is simply how fast it works during peak hours.

Below is a guide on the minimum typical evening speed per each speed tier.

Speed tier Download/upload speeds
Basic II nbn® 25 Potential 25 Mbps download/5 Mbps upload
Standard nbn® 50 Potential 50 Mbps download/20 Mbps upload
Fast nbn® 100/20 Potential 100 Mbps download/20 Mbps upload
Fast nbn® 100/40 Potential 100 Mbps download/40 Mbps upload
Superfast nbn® 250 (available in eligible areas) Potential 250 Mbps download/25 Mbps upload
Ultrafast nbn® 1000 (available in eligible areas) Potential 1000 Mbps download/50 Mbps upload
  • Basic Evening Speed - this is the entry-level bundle plan for basic internet needs. If you are planning to get basic internet plans, you may experience a slight increase or decrease in speed, depending on how good your existing connection is.
  • Standard Evening Speed - this type of internet bundle plan delivers a minimum speed of 15Mbps during peak hours. Plans with standard evening speed can easily accommodate average Australian households.
  • Standard Plus Evening Speed - plans under standard plus speed deliver a minimum 30Mbps during peak hours. This plan would suit a higher usage profile like streaming an ultra-high-definition movie or streaming music on multiple devices during busy periods.
  • Premium Evening Speed - internet plans labelled as premium evening speed can deliver a minimum speed of 60Mbps during peak hours. This is suitable for a higher usage profile than Standard Plus like those who stream ultra HD movies and active gamers.

Can I get unlimited data with Internet bundles?

Most nbn® plans offer unlimited data now without caps or restrictions. An unlimited data Internet plan means you can use as much data as you want without concerns about exceeding a limit.

It offers peace of mind, ensuring you can use as much data as needed. If you're a heavy Internet user or have numerous devices requiring data, an unlimited plan is likely your best choice.

You can get an unlimited data plan without an Internet bundle, too, so you don't NEED an Internet bundle if you have unlimited data. It can be a great option if you're not interested in a home phone service. You'll just need to make sure that your chosen Internet provider offers unlimited data at the speed you need.
