Looking for a faster, more reliable internet connection? NBN FTTP plans (Fibre to the Premises) deliver full fibre NBN directly to your home, giving you access to higher speeds, lower latency and - most importantly - more consistent performance. Most people go with FTTP when an upgrade is available, or they want to switch providers, but either way, comparing FTTP internet plans is one of the best ways to improve your online experience.

At Compare Broadband, that’s exactly what we do for you. Our friendly, Aussie based team ensures that you are connected to the right FTTP plan that fits your needs and the needs of your family. With fibre running all the way to your premises and no copper involved, FTTP is designed for modern households that rely on streaming, gaming, working from home and using multiple connected devices at the same time.

The Targeted FTTP Upgrade: Get ahead of the 2027 timeline

If you have received a letter from nbn® about the Targeted FTTP Upgrade program, you are in the right place. Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) homes selected for the program will be upgraded to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) from July 2027.

You do not need to move to a high-speed plan to receive the upgrade. You can stay on your current speed tier, or use this opportunity to compare the faster plans now available on a full fibre connection.

  • No plan change required to trigger the Targeted Upgrade
  • July 2027: First notification letters sent to eligible homes
  • January 2028: First copper suspensions where no upgrade order is placed
  • All FTTP plans below are available at eligible addresses. Compare and choose the plan that suits your household.

FTTP internet plans: Can I get a connection?

FTTP, also known as FTTH (Fibre to the Home), is the most advanced and reliable NBN connection type available. Unlike older technologies that rely on copper wiring for part of the connection, FTTP uses fibre optic cable from the NBN network directly into your premises. Availability for FTTP NBN plans depends on your exact address.

Some homes already have FTTP installed, while others may be eligible for a free or low-cost FTTP upgrade when switching to a qualifying plan. This is especially common for households currently on FTTB, FTTN, FTTC or HFC connections.

The fastest way to find out what is available is to check your address with Compare Broadband, which will confirm whether FTTP is already connected or whether you can upgrade as part of your plan.

The best FTTP plans

The best NBN FTTP plans are those that meet your high speed needs, offer you the consistent performance you’re looking for, and deliver long-term value. Because FTTP removes copper from the network entirely, it is designed to deliver strong performance both now and in the future.

FTTP NBN plan speed and performance

FTTP plans provide access to the fastest NBN speed tiers available. Because fibre runs directly to your premises, speeds are more stable and less affected by peak usage times. FTTP internet plans are ideal for high-speed gaming, where low latency and fast response times are essential for competitive play.

They also perform exceptionally well for streaming services, allowing you to watch 4K and ultra-HD content without buffering or dropouts. Large file downloads, cloud backups and software updates are also significantly faster on FTTP compared to copper-based connections.

Superior reliability

One of the biggest advantages of FTTP NBN plans is their reliability. With no copper wiring involved, performance is not impacted by distance from a node or by ageing infrastructure. FTTP connections typically experience lower latency, which improves responsiveness for remote working, stable video calls and real-time applications.

Dropouts are less common, and speeds tend to remain consistent throughout the day, including during busy evening periods. For households that rely on a stable internet connection for work or study, this reliability can make a noticeable difference.

Future-proof technology

FTTP is built to support increasing internet demand over time. As households use more devices and rely more heavily on cloud services, streaming platforms and remote working tools, FTTP ensures your connection can keep up.

Because the infrastructure is already fibre-based, homes with FTTP can easily access faster NBN speed tiers as they become available, reducing the likelihood of needing further upgrades in the future.

Ideal for multi-device and larger households

Modern households often have several people online at once, each using different devices and applications. From smart TVs and gaming consoles to laptops, phones and smart home devices, internet usage can add up quickly.

NBN FTTP plans are designed to handle high levels of simultaneous activity without slowing down. Speeds remain stable even during peak usage times, making FTTP a strong option for families, shared households and anyone who needs a reliable connection across multiple devices.

FTTP and property value

Access to full fibre internet is increasingly seen as a valuable feature for residential properties. Homes with FTTP connections are often more attractive to buyers and renters who prioritise fast and reliable internet.

For people working from home or running a business remotely, FTTP can be a deciding factor when choosing a property. In some cases, having FTTP available may also contribute to long-term property value and overall appeal.

FTTP plan speeds

FTTP plans support a wide range of NBN speed tiers, allowing you to choose a plan that matches your usage needs. Lower speed tiers such as NBN 50 are suitable for smaller households that primarily browse the web and stream in standard definition.

NBN 100 plans are popular for households that stream regularly, work from home or use multiple devices at once. Higher tiers such as NBN 250 are ideal for heavy users with higher data demands and gamers.

NBN 1000 offers maximum performance for power users who want the fastest speeds available on the NBN. It used to be the case that NBN 1000 was only available for small businesses, but now that we’re all ramping up our usage we’re able to upgrade and benefit from better speeds. Because FTTP delivers fibre directly to your home, these speed tiers are generally more reliable and consistent compared to other NBN technologies.

FTTP plans by provider

FTTP NBN plans vary by provider, with differences in pricing, speed options and plan inclusions. Comparing providers helps ensure you find the best FTTP plan for your needs and budget.

Optus FTTP plans

Optus FTTP plans offer access to high-speed NBN tiers designed for both everyday households and heavy internet users. These plans often include competitive pricing and optional bundle deals, making them a popular choice for customers upgrading to FTTP.

FAQs

What is an FTTP NBN plan?

An FTTP NBN plan uses fibre optic cable to connect the NBN directly to your premises, allowing for faster speeds, lower latency and greater reliability compared to copper-based connections.

Can I upgrade my NBN to FTTP for free?

Some households are eligible for free or discounted FTTP upgrades when choosing a qualifying plan. Eligibility depends on your address and the provider you select.

Is FTTP better than FTTN or FTTC?

FTTP generally delivers better performance than FTTN or FTTC because it does not rely on copper cabling, resulting in faster speeds and more consistent connections.

What speeds are available on FTTP?

FTTP supports all NBN speed tiers, including NBN 1000, making it suitable for high-demand households.

Do I need a new modem for FTTP?

In some cases, a new modem or router may be required, as FTTP uses a different connection setup compared to other NBN technologies.
