The NBN (or National Broadband Network) is a government enterprise instigated to replace Australia’s old inferior copper line internet infrastructure with a typically more effective optic fibre cable network. Once NBN construction of an area is complete, its copper lines are disconnected, which means you’ll no longer be able to get ADSL or ADSL2+ service in that area. The NBN is largely finished in Mandurah; while there are still some areas that are still under construction, the NBN Co have announced that that their nationwide rollout will finally be finished by the end of 2020. So if you’re in a home that is not yet NBN ready, rest assured that it is on its way! If you already have the NBN, you can compare Mandurah NBN plans here.
The different NBN connection types commonly found in Mandurah include Fixed Wireless, Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), Fibre to the Node (FTTN), Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), and Fibre to the Basement. Each NBN connection type works differently. While some NBN connection types have been proven to be more effective than others, you do not get to choose what kind of connection your house is given; different connections are allocated to different areas (this what is now known as the NBN Lottery). However, if your are experiencing poor speeds due to your NBN connection type, you can counter this by choosing an NBN plan that has a better speed tier and/or more data. It should be noted that an underperforming internet speed can be caused by any number of things, many of them easily solvable. If you are feeling dissatisfied with your NBN speeds, the first thing you should do is call your internet service provider (ISP) so they can provide you with advice on fixing it. The problem may be as simple as a chords that has come loose or a Christmas tree interfering with your Wi-Fi signal.
If you’d like to know when your area will be NBN active, and what kind of NBN connection your home has been designated, check out our NBN rollout map for Mandurah below. Simply enter your address into the map. But make sure you enter your entire accurate address, as until the NBN rollout is 100% complete, there might only be one street the difference between a zone that is NBN ready and a zone that is under construction.

Fibre to the premises / home
When the NBN project initially commenced, the government at the time intended to roll out fibre optic cabling all the way up to your home or business property. This type of connection is call Fibre to the premises/home

Fibre to the node
Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).

Fixed wireless connection
In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
