Types of NBN connections in Jimboomba

The Jimboomba NBN service is now prominently available in many areas. To find out if your Jimboomba premises is NBN active, scroll down and enter your address into the NBN rollout map below. If your Jimboomba residence already has the NBN, but you’re interested in shopping around for a better plan, you can compare the best Jimboomba NBN plans and providers here. The NBN (which stands for National Broadband Network) is an MTM (which stands for Multi Technology Mix). This means that there are several different kinds of NBN connection types found around Jimboomba and the rest of Australia, including Fixed Wireless, FTTN (Fibre to the Node), HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial), FTTB (Fibre to the Basement), FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), and in the more rural areas, NBN Sky Muster Satellite Service.

Unfortunately, some NBN connection types work better than others, but customers do not get to choose what NBN connection they are given; this choice is made for them by the NBN Co, the government body in charge of building and maintaining the NBN. It is your location that will ultimately inform which NBN connection type you are designated, and short of moving to a different location, you cannot change your NBN connection type. This unfavourable policy is informally referred to as the NBN Lottery. However, though you do not get to choose your NBN connection type, you do get to your NBN speed tier as well as your NBN data amount. Depending on your location, you may also be able to seek out an ulterior form of home broadband, such as Home Wireless.

Step 1 icon

Fibre to the premises / home

When the NBN project initially commenced, the government at the time intended to roll out fibre optic cabling all the way up to your home or business property. This type of connection is call Fibre to the premises/home

Step 2 icon

Fibre to the node

Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).

Step 2 icon

Fixed wireless connection

In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
