Types of NBN connections in Bundaberg

The NBN (which stands for National Broadband Network) is a nationwide enterprise implemented for the purpose of upgrading our country’s home broadband service. This is achieved by replacing Australia’s old internet infrastructure - which was based on the old copper telephone lines -  with a typically more effective fibre optic cable network system.

There are several different types of NBN connections found in in Bundaberg including Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC), Fixed Wireless, Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), Fibre to the Node (FTTN), Fibre to the Premises, and Fibre to the Basement. Depending on your location, some NBN connections may not work as well as others, but unfortunately, we don’t get to choose what type we are given; the NBN Co chooses that for us, and unpopular policy now colloquially and derisively referred to as the NBN Lottery. However, if you are hampered with an NBN connection type that you are getting a satisfactory performance out of, you select an NBN package that offers more data and a higher speed tier. To find out what NBN connection your home has been allocated, enter your address into our NBN Bundaberg map below. Be sure to enter your full and accurate results for best results. If your home is not yet NBN ready, the rollout map will tell you roughly when your area can expect your NBN upgrade. If your home already has active NBN service, you can start comparing the best NBN providers in Bundaberg.

Step 1 icon

Fibre to the premises / home

When the NBN project initially commenced, the government at the time intended to roll out fibre optic cabling all the way up to your home or business property. This type of connection is call Fibre to the premises/home

Step 2 icon

Fibre to the node

Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).

Step 2 icon

Fixed wireless connection

In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
