Types of NBN connections in Footscray

The NBN (National Broadband Network) is a countywide enterprise that aims to upgrade Australia’s internet by replacing the old copper line based network (which was initially built for landline telephone networks as opposed to our internet) with a generally quicker and more dependable fibre optic cable network. The NBN Australian rollout is now close to completion, and you will be able to find active Footscray NBN service across most areas of the suburb. If your Footscray location hasn’t received your NBN upgrade yet, feel free to scroll down and use your NBN rollout map to find out when the NBN service is due in your area (write your full and correct address in order to get the most accurate results). If your home or office already has an active Footscray NBN service and you’d like to start looking around for a better Footscray NBN deal, you can compare the best Footscray NBN plans and providers here

The NBN is a MTM (Multi Technology Mix) which means that there are varying different NBN connection types that all operate on different sorts of technologies. Some of the different NBN connection types found in Footscray include FTTN (Fibre to the Node), HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial), FTTB (Fibre to the Basement), Fixed Wireless, and FTTP (Fibre to the Premises). Some NBN connection types work better than others, but unfortunately, customers do not get to choose which NBN connection type is installed in their premises. However, they do get to choose their NBN speed and their NBN data amount.

Step 1 icon

Fibre to the premises / home

When the NBN project initially commenced, the government at the time intended to roll out fibre optic cabling all the way up to your home or business property. This type of connection is call Fibre to the premises/home

Step 2 icon

Fibre to the node

Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).

Step 2 icon

Fixed wireless connection

In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
