Types of NBN connections in Grafton

The NBN service is now available in many areas of Grafton. You can use our rollout map below to find out if your home or office is ready for NBN service. If your residence is already NBN active, you can compare the best Grafton NBN plans and providers here. The NBN is Multi Technology Mix (MTM) which means that there are several different kinds of NBN connections made from different technologies. Some of the different NBN connections found in Grafton are Fixed Wireless, HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial), FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), FTTB (Fibre to the Basement), and FTTN (Fibre to the Node). Some NBN connections are known to work a bit better than others, but unfortunately NBN customers do not get to choose what NBN connections they get, this choice is made for them by the NBN Co, the government body in charge of building and maintaining the NBN. However, if you are unhappy with your NBN performance, you can try upgrading NBN speed tier or your NBN data plan, or conversely, you can see if there are alternative home broadband connections available in your area, such as Home Wireless or 5G (scroll down to read more about 5G below).

Step 1 icon

Fibre to the premises / home

When the NBN project initially commenced, the government at the time intended to roll out fibre optic cabling all the way up to your home or business property. This type of connection is call Fibre to the premises/home

Step 2 icon

Fibre to the node

Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).

Step 2 icon

Fixed wireless connection

In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
