Types of Internet connections in Maitland
Looking for the best home internet in Maitland, NSW? There are several different types of internet connections found in Maitland, including the NBN, Cable, ADSL2+ and Home Wireless. The best internet connection for you will largely depend on your address, as different locations are better equipped for different kinds of internet connections; for example, very few homes are compatible for both NBN connections as well as ADSL2+ connections, as the NBN was designed to phase out ADSL connections. To find out what the best broadband connection for your home is - and to learn what broadband plans and providers are best for your desired budget and monthly data requirements - simply enter your postcode or suburb into our search bar above and click “Compare Now”. The NBN - also known by its full title, the National Broadband Network - is a government owned operation designed and implemented to upgrade Australia’s internet infrastructure by taking our old copper line network and replacing it with a typically more effective fibre optic cable system. The NBN is a multi-technology mix, which means that there are different NBN connections made up of different technologies (effectively a result of a change in government which led to funding cuts). The several different kinds of NBN connections found in Maitland include FTTB (Fibre to the Basement), FTTN (Fibre to the Node), FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial), and Fixed Wireless. Some NBN connections are known to work more more effectively than others, but lamentably, NBN customers are unable to select what manner of NBN connection is installed in their home; this decision is made by the NBN Co, the government corporation in charge of operating the NBN, and it is a choice chiefly informed by the location of your home. However, if you are unhappy with the performance speed of your NBN connection, you can generally counter it by opting for an NBN package that offers a higher NBN speed tier, or you can simply look for an alternative form of home broadband, such as 5G (scroll down to read more about that below!).
To learn if your home has been upgraded to the NBN, and to find out what sort of NBN connection has been assigned to your region, enter your full address into the NBN rollout map below. Be sure to enter your accurate address for accurate results. If your home is not yet NBN active, the map will tell you roughly what month(s) you can expect that to change. If you already have NBN service and you are ready to find a good NBN deal, you can compare NBN plans in Maitland here.

Fibre to the premises / home
When the NBN project initially commenced, the government at the time intended to roll out fibre optic cabling all the way up to your home or business property. This type of connection is call Fibre to the premises/home

Fibre to the node
Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).

Fixed wireless connection
In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
