Types of NBN connections in Mittagong

The NBN (or National Broadband Network) is a government enterprise designed and implemented to upgrade Australia’s internet infrastructure by replacing our old copper line network with a typically more effective fibre optic cable network. Due to a change in government that resulted in budget cuts, the NBN is now a Multi Technology Mix (also known as “MTM”),  The different kinds of NBN connection types found in Mittagong including Fixed Wireless, HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial), FTTB (Fibre to the Basement), FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), and FTTN (Fibre to the Node). Some NBN connections are known to be more reliable than others, but regrettably, NBN customers do not get to choose what kind of NBN connection is installed in their home; this decision is made for them by the NBN Co, an unpopular policy now known as the NBN Lottery. If you are experiencing problems with your NBN service, the first thing you should do is troubleshoot the problem with your NBN service provider to see if it can or can’t be easily fixed; the issue may be as simple as a loose cable or a wall, a TV, or a fish tank blocking your Wi-Fi signal. However, if you find that he problem is due to a lacklustre NBN connection type, you can typically counter it by selecting an NBN deal that has an ample amount of data and a higher speed tier. Alternative, you may wish to find an alternate home broadband service, such as Home Wireless. To find out if your home is NBN active, and to find out what manner of NBN connection type has been allocated to your area, enter your address into our NBN rollout map below. Step 2 icon

Fibre to the node

Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).

Step 2 icon

Fixed wireless connection

In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
