Make sure to write your full and correct address in order to get the best results. The NBN (which stands for National Broadband Network) is a countywide initiative to update Australia’s infrastructure that was implemented by the Federal Government. To cut a long story short, the NBN was designed to replace Australia’s old copperline-based internet infrastructure (which was a hand-me-down from our old landline telephone networks) with a customarily quicker and more reliable fibre optic cable network.
The NBN is an MTM (which stands for Multi Technology Mix) which, in a nutshell, means that there are varying different NBN connection types that are made from varying different kinds of technologies. Some of the different NBN connection types found in North Bondi include Fixed Wireless, FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), FTTN (Fibre to the Node), HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial), and FTTB (Fibre to the Basement). Unfortunately, not all NBN connections work as well as others, and NBN customers do not get to decide what manner of NBN connection is installed within their premises; this policy has since been referred to as the NBN Lottery. However, while Australians don’t get to choose their NBN connection type, they do get to choose the finer details of their NBN plan. This means you have quite a bit of scope when it comes to choosing your NBN speed tier, your NBN data amount, your NBN contract plan, and how much you want to spend on your NBN plan per month.
Fibre to the premises / home
When the NBN project initially commenced, the government at the time intended to roll out fibre optic cabling all the way up to your home or business property. This type of connection is call Fibre to the premises/home
Fibre to the node
Mid-way through the NBN roll-out, a change in Government leadership saw some funding constraints which lead to a slightly different roll-out approach for the NBN. This approach involves an amalgamation of original copper systems and fibre optic systems. This is referred to as Fibre to the node (FTTN).
Fixed wireless connection
In some cases - particularly in remote locations - it would be impractical or too expensive to physically connect a property to the fibre-optic network. In such cases properties will be connected by a wireless network. This is referred to as a Fixed Wireless NBN connection.
